Lin-Manuel Miranda Not Returning for Moana 3

Lin-Manuel Miranda has confirmed that he has no plans to return for Moana 3, telling Deadline, “My time in the Moanaverse is done, but I can’t wait to see how far she’ll go.”

Miranda composed the songs for the original 2016 animated film, including “How Far I’ll Go,” which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and won a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Scheduling conflicts kept him from contributing to the 2024 sequel, with Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear stepping in as songwriters, though he returned to contribute new music to this year’s live-action Moana remake.

Earlier this year, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that a third Moana film is in active development.
