James Hype teases new 16-deck DJ setup

James Hype has shared a preview of his new 16-deck DJ setup.

The Liverpool-born DJ teased the format on TikTok earlier this week, captioning the post: “This might be the best idea I’ve ever had. Or the most unnecessary. Either way, it’s too late now.”

In a second video, Hype can be seen marking out the 360-degree layout in chalk on the floor, surrounded by a stack of CDJ-3000X boxes.

Hype is known for using four decks in his DJ sets, although it’s not yet clear when or where he plans to put the new 16-deck setup into action.

Check out the teaser videos below.

The concept follows Hype’s recent Red Bull Directions set at Austria’s Frequency Festival, where the crowd used LED wristbands to vote on the musical direction of his set.

Liverpool-born Hype ranked No.52 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll last year, and recently released singles including ‘Waterfalls’ featuring Sam Harper and Bobby Harvey, ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’, and ‘Let Me Show You’ with Camisra.

Watch Hype deliver a high-energy set at DJ Mag HQ here. Hype was also among the artists whose exclusive DJ mix was shared by Apple Music to mark New Year’s Eve last year.
