Sweltering in NYC? 13 Hotel Pools to Jump In and Beat the Summer Heat

Location: Meatpacking, Manhattan
Vibe: Chic, members-only
Access: Soho House members and their guests only; loungers can be reserved in advance

There’s a reason Samantha Jones was willing to become a whole other person to get in here. This members-only club and its pool are still a draw, with a kind of easy, unfussy glamour. Set on the rooftop and nestled between the bar and restaurant, it’s a lovely slice of blue ringed by sun loungers that are perfect for people-watching. Pool beds can be reserved from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with slots opening 48 hours ahead of time—which means no unseemly sprinting for a chair. Come 5 p.m., though, it’s first-come, first-served.

Membership comes in two flavors: Local House, which gets you into your home club, and Every House, which opens the door to Soho Houses worldwide and is the one to have if you travel often. New York alone has three: this Meatpacking original plus Dumbo and Ludlow, though the Meatpacking rooftop was the first pool in Manhattan. Members can bring up to three guests, so you don’t strictly need a card of your own to get poolside, though it’s worth checking the pool’s guest hours before you go.

The crowd is international, and the service is easygoing and friendly. Programming is plentiful—night swims turn the whole place into an after-dark scene, and a recent listening bar pop-up had us moving to mellow house, exactly the sort of languid, sun-soaked afternoon that makes a brutal NY summer worth it.
