When it comes to properties associated with the British royal family, the United Kingdom has no shortage of them. But one of Queen Elizabeth II’s more unexpected destinations outside the U.K. was a sprawling ranch at the foot of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains.

The 1,542-acre spread hosted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1984. Their visit was no coincidence: Quarter Circle Lazy B Ranch, as the property is called, was originally owned by Oliver H. Wallop, the youngest son of a Victorian earl who moved to the American West in the early 1880s. Since then, the ranch has remained in the Wallop family, passing through four generations. Along the way, it has also welcomed notable guests such as NFL legend John Elway and former Vice President Dan Quayle.

Several buildings dot the Western landscape, including three separate homes, plus both historical and modern barns. The oldest structure is the foreman’s house, a three-bedroom cottage dating to the turn of the 20th century. Updated in 2011, the modern whitewashed residence offers bright, comfortable living spaces, while a more remote cabin near the back of the ranch includes two more bedrooms and a sleeping loft.

The largest of the accommodations is the two-bedroom, four-bathroom lodge. Built in 1993, the log home is the most traditional in character, with a stone fireplace, an expansive industrial-style kitchen, and a great room topped by soaring ceilings and skylights. Bay windows bring in views of the surrounding landscape, while an open loft above the living area provides additional sleeping space.

The landscape, protected by one of Wyoming’s earliest conservation easements, includes four mountain ponds and 600 feet of trout stream along Little Goose Creek. English-style pheasant shoots and a private hunt club are complemented by hunting grounds home to elk, moose, mountain lions, and black bears. For equestrian use, the property has two barns—a 1935 two-story stone structure and a 2017 modern one with six open stalls—along with an outdoor riding arena.

Quarter Circle Lazy B Ranch is now on the market for $24.5 million. Paul Wallop, the fourth-generation owner, is also serving as the listing agent.
