Frank Mauceri spent three decades preserving the sound of Cleveland’s underground rock scene. His other passion is considerably more serene: a meticulously crafted compound in Northern California‘s wine country, where French antiques, Moroccan tile, Italian windows, a saltwater pool, and sweeping vineyard views create an atmosphere far removed from the raw grit of punk rock.

Mauceri founded Smog Veil Records in Cleveland in 1991 while attending law school. Its catalog included releases by Rocket From the Tombs, Peter Laughner, Mr. Stress Blues Band, and the Dead Boys, whose influential music has since been covered by bands including Guns N’ Roses and Pearl Jam. After three decades preserving Cleveland’s punk and underground-rock legacy, Smog Veil closed in 2021.

The independent record label was just one piece of Mauceri’s career. He’s also an attorney who has practiced in Ohio and California. Over the years, he and his wife, Lisa, have had homes in New York and San Francisco. Their Sonoma County retreat, however, reflects a decidedly different pace of life. Set on roughly 8.5 rolling acres on the outskirts of Santa Rosa, the estate blends old-world European character with modern comforts. Built by fine-home builder Jon Reiter, the property is listed for $6 million by Holly Bennett of Sotheby’s International Realty, Wine Country. An adjacent 10.52-acre parcel is available separately for $1.5 million.

The approximately 3,700-square-foot main residence has three bedrooms plus an office and two-and-a-half baths. Throughout, handcrafted details stand out, from 5-inch plaster Rasta block walls and radiant-heated concrete floors to antique French entry doors, Italian Tuscan pine windows and shutters, rosewood interior doors, and intricate Moroccan metalwork.

Inside, a French Louis XIII-era limestone fireplace anchors the living spaces, complemented by antique timber lintels and handcrafted Moroccan and zellige tile. The kitchen is decidedly more modern, with a La Cornue range, Sub-Zero refrigeration, integrated wine storage, and copper sinks.

Outside, landscaped gardens give way to an orchard filled with apple, pear, olive, citrus, persimmon, and passion-fruit trees. Terraces and outdoor lounging areas surround a newly rebuilt saltwater pool and spa.

The property also has several additional structures, including a guesthouse and gym with a sauna, a gallery-style game room and speakeasy, and a garaging complex. A Savant home-automation system controls the thermostats, security cameras, audio, and property-wide Wi-Fi, while a generator keeps everything running when the power goes out.
