After bursting on our radar with his hypnotic debut Taste at Berlinale in 2021, Vietnamese filmmaker Lê Bảo is back with Hearing (Thính Giác), which will make its World Premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in International Competition. Ahead of a debut on August 10, we’re delighted to exclusively unveil the first trailer and poster.

Here’s the synopsis: “Ninh lives with his mother and misses his ex-wife Ngoc and their young children. In his work as a mechanic who installs decibel meters in public spaces and homes, Ninh observes the silence that haunts relationships. Wishing for his parents, who live apart and do not speak to each other, to reconcile, his fear of losing his connection to his loved ones forces him to face life’s unpredictable rhythms.”

The director added, “I am happy to share with everyone my film Hearing, a place where I have preserved warm memories and profound longing. Hearing is also as tender as the songs my mother used to sing while cycling with me as a child.“

Produced by Elizabeth Wijaya, Lai Weijie and Huỳnh Yến, Hearing is an ambitious international co-production between Vietnam, Singapore, Norway, France, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, Thailand and Taiwan, with Heretic representing world sales.
